My brother wants GW
Hello all,
In Holland we are in a period that looks alot like the xmas period in amerika etc. on december 5 we have an evening and children get presents, like with xmas. My brother asked to 'sinterklaas' ( This is a person just like santa , he gives away presents ) if he could give him Guild Wars. Now, my brother is > 10 < years old. So i think i've got to help him alot with stuff, since he can't speak english, just 'yes' and 'no'. I'm not sure if i would like to help him at all those things , AND my main problem : Guild wars 2. Do you think it's smart to buy guild wars for him when guild wars 2 comes out begin next year. I probably will play that game then, since guild wars isn't really a challange for me anymore. And then he's alone, noone to play with. But i could just stay on GW and grind all my titles up along with him. Please give me some advise, Dae |

You could be a really good older brother and let him use one of your character slots.
Since GW isnt a challenge for you any more you could do that and see if he really takes to the game. If its too much for him and he gives up its no great loss, if after a week or so he is enthralled by the game get it for him then as a late present. gw2 coming out next year ? hmm well maybe, I don't really see gw2 being out in 2009 maybe just maybe Dec 2009 but no one really knows enough to make an educated guess. btw do you have all the gw games ? I mention that because the GW online shop has a 50% discount on a second game. So you could get one for him and one for yourself. |

About GW2, when it's december we can just get it for him, 1 year of playing is long enough to buy a game imo. I've got all games already yes, but when my brother has an account we can get those others with the 50% bonus yes, that'd be nice Can some1 please informate me some more about the GW2 release date? Thanks, Dae |

Not sure if its available in holland or not, but Guild Wars Trilogy is about the best deal you could ever get. All three campaigns for the price i paid for just one. Plus you get bonus weapons pack and an Everlasting Fire Imp summoning stone, might be the perfect gift for someone that wants guild wars.

I just checked a few prices, and the best deal you could get would be the "Complete Collection", which Music Store sells for ~€45. Each installment (including Eye of The North) is roughly €15 when bought separately at Music Store or Bart Smit. Avoid Free Record Shop or Bol.com as they're substantially more expensive. If you can convince your parents that the internet isn't the source of all evil, you might be better off buying one of the campaigns, and buying the rest in the online store (I wasn't able to check the price because my accounts have all the campaigns) - depending on the budget.
As for giving him a character slot: no. Don't. People are stupid. Kids especially so. If you have a fight with him, at 10, he's likely to try to get revenge. Possibly by deleting your characters. Also, he's more likely to be scammed when he learns English, or spend your money on things you don't want. Or do other stupid things. |

There is no official or unofficial Guild Wars 2 release date from Arena Net and NC Soft yet. It's still being developed and anyone who tells you that there is a date is just pulling it out of no where at this point.

1. GW2 has no announced release date. Any dates floating around are just unfounded rumors caused by internet sites putting in dates to allow pre-orders of non-existent software.
2. At age 10, your brother will need a lot of help to play the game. (My grandson started at age 8, so I have heard all the stories from his father.) You can do a basic setup of his character and then periodically recheck to adjust attributes when you are playing with him. You need to realize that he will mess things up, sell things to merchant he shouldn't, keep things that are interesting but worthless - let it happen. It won't be the end of the world. It is you who will have problems. You will want to help him do it "right" and he most likely won't care. On the brighter side, he might become a great player and guildmate for you. My grandson can play his characters excellently and joins pugs without ever talking to anyone. No one in the game knows how young he is. But he still keeps things just because he likes them. He probably won't talk much to other players, as the in-town chat whizzes by too fast.

I also got a brother who's ten, he'll be 11 soon though. He knows well enough how to play this game, it took me about a week to help him through all the mechanics before I left him on his own.
Like Darcy said, he never talks to people (which imo, is really nice. He doesn't need to get involved in those topics some people start in local chat). Get it for him, if anything you can use the account for storage or other stuff if it doesn't work out. |

This game is rated Teen for a reason. I would reccomend just letting him have some time with a free char slot at his age he'd get pretty bored soonish but im against ppl below 12 playing just my opinion....

i have my little brothers playing.
I don't mind but as some people said.. It will be hard to teach them.. I tried to teach them how to "talk to people" and not just play.. it took me 30 MINUTES! I mean come on.. it should be easy... But I would say let him use a character you used or use a free character slot in your account if you want. |

In Europe, I believe the User Agreement just states that the child cannot open an account themselves; you must be 18 or older. Parents are permitted to allow children (no age mentioned) to use their account(s).

they just put in this clause to prevent children from playing without the knowledge of their parents
really, if every aspect of the user agreement was followed to the word, you'd stop playing gw as soon as you installed it. Just open an account mate, they won't send the SAS after ur brother xD |

I cannot tell the price at the online store as I already bought the games so I cannot get to the checkpout page.
I do know that the guild wars complete collection 3 games + expansion is ??24-99 at Amazon so that's about 27 Euros Sounds like a pretty good price to me. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...ndhotelinth-21 similar price at HMV Play.com and a few others http://www.find-dvd.co.uk/videoGameP...ame=B001CSMF48 |

keep let him using one of your free slots, if hes immensely entertained by GW then buy him either the complete edition or the GW trilogy, GW2 wont probably be here till at least 2010, so might as well get it for him.

This is an excellent price for all the three campaigns and the expansion(gremlin's links). Almost unbelievable. Someone told me that CC edition also comes with goodies that you don't get if you buy the campaigns independently(even the Trilogy available in US).
Is there any way(even a far fetched one) to get this in US? Any UK online store ships to US addresses for reasonable cost for example? Or perhaps I can pay online and they just send me the keys for CC edition instead of the real box? Thanks! |

Amazon.uk lists various shipping options to the US. Be sure to check the exchange rates and for any credit card fees for currency differences (often 3%). Then you'll just have to wait a bit, especially if you order around the holidays.
The downside of having someone just email the key is what if you have account problems and need to send ANet proof you actually have the key? Whoops. Curse NCSoft for not selling the complete compilation EVERYWHERE. I did nab a Trilogy for only $31 delivered, from GoGamer.com the other weekend when it was on sale, so I can't complain too much. Could kick myself for not getting some extra copies to give as presents. Now we just need to have the "buy one get one free" character slot holiday sale idea and I'd get quite a few of those. |

Hmm, didn't know my option was so straightforward, thanks for the help.
The actual price(GBP 25) + shipping(max GBP 7) + any currency exchange rate(3%?) may not cross USD 50, so that is a great deal for me. Is there any concept of separate US and UK servers and GW bought in UK can play on UK GW servers only? Can I use the key of this CC edition to create account in any realm of my choice? |

Not any more, you can use any key/package no matter what country it was bought from. Once your account is activated you can select to play anyplace. Usually the American zones are most active, but you can switch between any of them whenever you want.
The only limits really are you have to stick to English letters for character and guild names. Only the Asian keys allow Asian characters, to the best of my knowledge. |

GuildWars Trilogy + EoTN expansion pack for $35?
Guild Wars Trilogy $30 2-day deal is back on gogamer.com(another 26 hours to go)[1]. I also noticed that Amazon.com is selling the Eye of the North expansion for $5[2].
So what is the difference now between (a) Guild Wars Trilogy(US) + Eye of the North Expansion for $35 and (b) Guild Wars Complete Collection(UK) for $50 for a US buyer? Specifically, what in-game goodies do these editions come with? Does anybody know the total no. of character slots these editions give us? Thanks [1] http://www.gogamer.com/viewproduct.h...&PI D=2026489 [2] http://www.amazon.com/Guild-Wars-Nor...dp/B000RZKZPS/ |
